Exam questions- Diet and Excercise Flashcards
What was the effect on the death rate om war 1 of doctors washing their hands before delivering babies?
The death rate decreased drastically. This is because the bacteria was killed so less infections were passed on.

Give two ways in which white blood cells protect us against diseases
Engulf- engulfs the pathogens
Anti toxins- Sends out things to the surrounding pathogens, fights it and eventually destroy it.
Explain how immunisation protects us against a named disease.
flu. An immunization is usually a dead form of the disease you are trying be protected against. Your body sees it as the infection and tries to fight it off, building antibodies in your blood. Then, if you happen to get the disease in nature, your body already has the antibodies prepared to fight off the disease.
Organisms that cause diseases are called
pathogens
why will antibiotics not get rid of the flu ?
flu is a virus while antibiotics only have effect on bacterial pathogens
