Exam One - measurement validity Flashcards
face validity
subjective judgement of the measurement
- solely a matter of opinion
content validity
does the instrument adequately represent all dimensions of avariable?
criterion-related validity
check the performance of a measurement against a standard
criterion-related validity has two standards of judgement:
1 - predictive validity: ability to predict something in the future
2 - concurrent validity: test measurement and criterion measure recorded at same time (test measure typically considered to be more efficient than the “gold standard”)
construct validity
ability of an instrument/test to measure an abstract concept and the degree that it reflects the theoretical components of the construct
3 tests for construct validity
1 - know groups validity
2 - convergent validity
3 - divergent validity
known groups validity
know: “functional differences” exist between people with and without advanced knee OA
convergent validity
measures expected to be similar are
divergent validity
measures expected to be different are
is it accurate to say this test is both valid and reliable?
no
