Exam III: SA Diagnosis and Treatment of Injuries and Diseases in the Carpus, Tarsus and Elbow Flashcards
Bleedorn
Develop a treatment plan (short and long-term) for a dog with tarsal OCD
signalment? frequency?
tarsal OCD is rare, traumatic instbility is more common
medial ridge is more affected than the literal and that is more common than both, it is often (50% bilateral) and can be seen in young, large breed (male) dogs or adult dogs aith arthritis.
surgery, removal and debridement, unloading osteotmy, arthrodesis, total ankle replacement, treat for OA.
Develop a treatment plan (short and long-term) for a dog with carpal hyperextension
(traumatic) disruption of the palmar fibrocartilage)
severe cases mat require arthrodesis. fibrocatilage does NOT HEAL.
Describe diagnostic steps to identify collateral ligament injuries in a clinical patient
visible instability, palapation, ultrasound ans stress radiogrpahs.
Describe the indications for arthrodesis, describe the aftercare and the difference between partial and pantarsal/-carpal arthrodesis
arthrodesis is used as a last resort, it cannot be undone. will need a splint or cast: slow healing (radiographs at 6 and 12 weeks)
partial won’t fuse high motion joints, pan fuses all joints -> LAST RESORT
diagnose and make treatment recommendations for:
MCD (Medial compartment disease)
incongruity plays a role in MCD/UAP
in MCD, due to long ulna (short radius)
also known as cornoid disease
diagnosis: PE, rads, CT, arthroscopy.
disconiutiy of coronoid process
estephytes on anconeal process and cranial aspect of proximal portion of the radial head
ulnar sclerosis
occasionally see fragment
treatment: debride, coronoidectomy, ulnar ostectomy, (for incongruity) and arthritis management
diagnose and make treatment recommendations for:
UAP (Ununited anconeal process)
due to a SHORT ulna
ancolceal process is separate and fuses by 20 weeks. compare to other limb
uap removal (DJD), ulna osteotomy (failure of fusion), lag screw (all of the above and could lead to additional surgeries) — nto best treeatments
diagnose and make treatment recommendations for:
OCD (Osteochondrosis dissecans)
medial humeral condyle
excision of flap
OATS (donor piece of joint)
