Exam 4 Flashcards
Variables that influence resistance to extinction
- magnitude
- degree of deprivation
- previous experience
- s delta
- schedule
- history
Partial reinforcement effect
Behavior that has been maintained on an intermittent schedule will extinguish slower than behavior maintained on a CRF schedule.
Considerations when using extinction
- have you identified a reinforcer?
- can you eliminate the reinforcer
- is it safe to use extinction?
- can you tolerate an extinction burst
- can you be consistent?
DRA
Select alternative behavior and reinforce it while performing extinction for bad behavior
DRI
You cannot simultaneously do both behaviors
FCT
Teaching a communication response instead of problem behaviors
DRO
Provide reinforcement if problem behavior doesn’t occur in a time period
DRL
The problem w the behavior isn’t the behavior itself yet the frequency. You are to eliminate the frequency of the problem not eliminate the behavior
Positive reinforcement
Adding stimulus to increase a behavior
Negative reinforcement
Taking away stimulus to increase behavior
Positive punishment
Adding stimulus to decrease a behavior
Negative punishment
Taking away stimulus to decrease a behavior
Exclusionary time out
Removal of an individual from the room
Non exclusionary time out
Removal from a reinforcing activity or interaction while remaining in the room
Considerations using time out
- use DRO or DRA
- time out should last 1-10 min
