is especially tuned in to the emotions others experience. It’s easy to see how a sensitivity to emotional signals from within and from the social environment could make one a better clinician, friend, spouse, peer, leader, or parent.
Fortunately, these skills can be honed.
Self-awareness: the ability to recognize what you are feeling and how your emotions affect your behavior & performance. You can see how others see you.
Self-regulation: the ability to stay focused and think clearly even when experiencing powerful emotions; essential for taking responsibility for your actions.
Motivation: the ability to use your deepest emotions to move and guide you towards your goals.
Empathy: the ability to sense, understand and respond to what other people are feeling. Note- if you are not aware of your own emotions, you will not be able to read the emotions in others.
Social Skill: the ability to manage, influence and inspire emotions in others. This is an essential skill for successful teamwork and leadership.
