Exam 1 - Joints of the Upper Limb Flashcards
What does the Clavicle articulate with?
The sternal end articulates with the Manubrium. The lateral end articulates with the Acromion.
What type of joint is the Sternoclavicular joint?
Saddle joint but it acts like a Ball and Socket joint
What is the joint that connects the Sternum and Clavicle?
Sternoclavicular joint. The sternoclavicular joint is very strong and the Clavicle will break before the joint disarticulates.
What are the ligaments of the Sternoclavicular joint?
Anterior Sternoclavicular Ligament, Posterior Sternoclavicular Ligament, Interclavicular Ligament, Costoclavicular Ligament
Does the Sternoclavicular Joint have an Articular Disc?
Yes and that is unusual for the upper limb.
Where does the Acromioclavicular joint articulate?
Between the Acromion of the Scapula and the lateral end of the Clavicle.
What ligaments stabilize the Acromioclavicular joint?
Superior Acromioclavicular Ligament, 2 Coracoclavicular Ligaments (Conoid and trapezoid), Coracoacromial Ligament
What type of joint is the Glenohumeral Joint?
Ball and Socket
What is the mechanism of a common Glenohumeral joint dislocation?
Typically anterior and inferior but not posterior. Arm is struck posteriorly and then the humerus is forced anterior and disarticulated.
What does the Glenohumeral joint articulate?
The glenoid fossa of the Scapula and the Humerus.
What is the primary stabilizer of the Glenohumeral joint?
The rotator cuff is the primary stabilizer.
What provides cushioning for the Glenohumeral joint?
The Labrum
What are the ligaments of the Glenohumeral joint?
The Transverse Humeral Ligament is the main ligament.
What type of joint is the elbow joint?
Hinge joint
