What are the 8 major parts of the body?
Head, Neck, Thorax, Back, Abdomen, Pelvis/Perineum, Lower Limb, Upper Limb.
What is the Medial Plane?
Divides body into left and right down the midline.
What is a Sagittal Plane?
Divides body into left and right but not down the midline.
What is the Frontal Plane (coronal plane)?
Divides body into anterior and posterior sections.
What is the Transverse Plane?
Divides body into superior and inferior sections.
What is Superficial?
Towards the surface (skin) relative to something else.
What is Deep?
Farther from the surface (skin) relative to something else.
What is Intermediate (anatomical term)?
In between a superficial and deep structure.
What is Medial?
Nearer to the medial (centerline) plane.
What is Lateral?
Farther from the medial plane.
What is Posterior (dorsal)?
Nearer to the back.
What is Anterior (ventral)?
Nearer to the front.
What is Inferior (caudal)?
Nearer to the feet.
What is Superior (cranial)?
Nearer to the head.
What is Distal?
Farther from trunk or point of origin.
What is Proximal?
Closer to the truck or point of origin.
What is Plantar Surface of Foot?
The bottom (sole).
What is Dorsal Surface of Foot?
The top (dorsum).
What is Palmar Surface of Hand?
The palm side (anterior).
What is Dorsal Surface of Hand?
The back of the hand (posterior).

Raising forward (flexion) and raising backwards (extension).
