What does VIRS stand for?
Verbally Initiated Release System
What is the purpose of VIRS operations?
A procedure to provide verbal steering guidance to an A/C and call a release when it reaches a predetermined point
VIRS allows for the least amount of prior DZ information and coordination
Used for rotary-wing and small fixed-wing A/C on a small DZ
What are the requirements for a VIRS operation?
DZSO / DZSTL must maintain visual and radio contact with A/C throughout approach
CCT / STT is not required
No special air crew or A/C requirements
Where and how are the ground markings placed on a VIRS operation?
At the RP

Code letters are formed by VS 17 panels placed together
Each letter is two panels high and one panel wide
another panel is placed 500m in the direction of flight and another panel to the left of the RP at 200m
When is the standby command issued on a VIRS DZ?
When A/C is 8 to10 seconds from RP
Explain the jump command for a VIRS DZ.
“EXECUTE, EXECUTE, EXECUTE” when A/C is over RP
Navigator turns on green light on 1st “EXECUTE”
