Exam 1 - Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 Inhibitors Flashcards
What are the characteristics of the DPP4 inhibitors?
- Inhibit the metabolism of GLP1 and GIP, thereby increasing their duration of effectiveness.
- SE’s = upper respiratory infections, runny nose, nasopharyngitis, headache rare hypersensitivity rxns,
Which are the DPP4 inhibitor drugs?
Saxagliptin ( Onglyza )
Linagliptin (Tradjenta)
Alogliptin (Nesina)
What do the DPP4 inhibitor drugs end in?
gliptin
What are the characteristics of Saxagliptin ( Onglyza ) Linagliptin (Tradjenta)
Alogliptin (Nesina)?
All 4 agents are used orally QD Monotherapy or addon
● Weight neutral
● Very low incidence of S.E.
● Type2 diabetics ONLY
● NOT indicated for use with insulin
● Delays gastric emptying (decreases the rate and extent of absorption of other drugs)(take other drugs at least 1 hour before dosing, especially antibiotics and contraceptives)
● Pancreatitis (rare)
What is a characteristic specific to Linagliptin (Tradjenta)?
No need for dose adjustment in renal failure with linagliptin (excreted in the bile, not the kidneys)
What is DPP4?
- DPP4 is a serine protease widely distributed throughout the body on endothelial cells, on the surface of T-lymphocytes, and in a circulating form.
- DPP4 may be important enzyme involved in proper immune system functioning
