alpha particle scattering experiment
1000 alpha particles were shot at a thin gold sheet
if positive matter was spread out, the alpha particles would pass through the sheet
1 in 1000 alpha particles bounced back
this shows that positive matter is in a concentrated area and that most of the atom is empty space
