Financial implications (strength)
P- treating alcoholism with medication (Antabuse)can become expensive for the NHS
E-Devlin (2008) inc spend on Antabuse from 1.08M (1998)—>2.25M (2008).
HOWEVER alcohol cornier abused coats is small compared to the overall cost of treating alcohol related problems
Suggests investing in treatments now saves money in the long run
E- although financial costs are high they could ultimately reduce the long term expenses on treating alcohol addictions
Strength bcs spending on treatment can avert and prevent bigger complications in future.
Doesn’t deal with deeper issues behind addiction (weakness)
P- Doesn’t deal with deeper issues behind addiction which leads to long term impact
E- wheile aversion therapy can help stop addictictive behaviour in short term it doesn’t address the root cause eg mental health/ social issues eg poverty
Centre of social justice- shows deeper causes aren’t treated which cause people to relapse/ switch to other addictions which may lead to ongoing social problems eg unemployment and homelessness
E- avaesion thereby reduces addiction in short term but doesnt full solve the bigger social issues.
Negative bcs shows aversion therapy isn’t enough to reduce log term social impact of addiction
