Evaluation of Meltzoff and Moore Flashcards
What are some problems with testing infant behaviour?
- Their mouths are fairly constant in movement and the expressions tested occur frequently.
This makes it difficult to distinguish between general activity and specific imitated behaviour.
Who failed to replicate the findings of Meltzoff and Moore and what did they reply to this?
Keopke (1983) they argued he hadn’t got the findings because his experiment was less carefully controlled.
How can you test the intention of infant behaviour?
By seeing how they respond to inanimate objects.
Who observed infant behaviour when interacting with objects and what did they find?
Abravanel and DeYong (1991). infants aged 5 to 12 weeks, made little response to the object, which concluded that infants do not imitate anything they see it as a specific social response to other humans.
What did Isabella et all find?
More strongly attached infant caregiver pairs showed greater interactional synchrony.
What did Heimann find?
Infants that demonstrate a lot of imitation have a better quality of relationships at three months.
