Evaluation of Images and Storage Flashcards
Advantages of taking a conscious image
- Some patient may be too unwell for gA
- Quick
- No recovery time
Disadvantages of taking a conscious image
- Movement blur
- Stress
- Behaviour
- Limited use of restraint (sandbags only, no ties)
Restraint (Sedated)
- Use of sandbags
- Reduced resistance in positioning
- Reduced stress
Restraint (General Anaesthesia)
- highest degree of muscle relaxation
- Best for BVA hip/elbow scoring
- Can use any restraint
What causes underexposure
Insufficient photons reaching detectors
Image quality- Underexposure
- Reduced contrast
- System unable to differentiate between background and electronic noise
Image quality- Overexposure
Appears as an excessive blackening of the film
How do we alter underxpousre issues?
increase kV by 10-15%
How do we alter overexposure issues?
decrease kV by 10-15%
Moire Artefact
Alternating light and dark bands across an image due to interference between grid lines and monitor screens
Uberschwinger artefact
Processing error causing excessive pixel enhancement
What is the Digital Imaging Communication in Medicines (DICOM) do?
Allows transfer between various practice management systems
What does Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) do?
Used to store, retrieve and share images produced by various modalities
