Digital Radiography Flashcards
Cateragories of Digital Radiography
- Computed radiography (CR)
- Direct Digital Radiography (DDR)
- Indirect Digital Radiography (IDR)
Does CR require a cassette
Cassette based digital radiography
What layers does the imaging plate consist of?
Protective layer
Phosphor layer
Reflective layer
Conductive layer
Colour layer
Support layer
Backing layer
How does CR work?
X-ray photons cause excitation of photons in the phosphor layer, trapping electrons, creating an image.
What is a cassette?
Cassette protects the imaging plate from light and handling.
Does DDR and IDR require a cassette?
Does not require a cassette.
What is DDR?
One-phase process
Converts xray energy into an electrical charge
Made up of a photoconducter & thin film transistor
What is IDR?
A two-phase process
xray energy is converted into light and the into an electrical charge
What is the protective layer?
Thin protection layer, protects the emulsion layers as theyre more fragile
Phosphor Layer
Absorb x-ray photons
They play a crucial role in dental procedures due to their flexibility
Reflective Layer
Reflects the light emitted by the phosphor layer back towards x-ray film
Conductive layer
Absorbs and reduces static electricity
Colour layer
Absorbs the stimulating light but reflects emitted light
Support layer
Gives the plate strength and is the base for coating other layers
Backing layer
Protects cassettes back
