What is a survey?
legal document of legal understanding of what’s going on on the site. doesn’t always note topography or all utilities, wide range of info can be shown
metes & bounds
some know benchmark, then go off dimensions/cardinal directions. used when in far away location/not mapped super well

based off plan, simple survey

company that provides specific version of survey
what are some things a survey must show?
the extents of the plot
easements (legal restrictions of use of land)
what does a geotech survey show?
bearing capacity of soils
Environmental reports
have phase 1 & phase 2
phase 1 - an expert will go to the site and mark a general recomendation for the site use
phase 2 - if phase 1 says ‘likely proceed’, then it provides more thorough testing results
Borings
- typical type is a split spoon
- arch may suggest locations
- blow test: drop hammer onto tube then measure how many times it takes to hammer
groundwater conditions on geotech report
notes where water table depth is, can inform if want a basement
conclusions noted on a geotech report
will note ‘likely can proceed with project’ or not. may make recommendations for types of foundations

what is important about views for site issues?
park, gardens, skyline, openess
what is important about typography/lay of the land?
