What are the 3 ditching devices?
- Slide Rafts
- Escape Slides
- Portable Life Raft
Slide Raft capacity is?
44 with an overload of 55
What item is equipped with the slide rafts?
A Survival Kit, but these are separate items that are located on the aircraft which must be removed and brought on the raft
Can Escape slides be used in a Ditching?
Single slides can be used however they are not certified as rafts
What is the capacity of escape slides?
There is no capacity, they are purely used as flotation devices
3 Rules with Escape Slides?
- An Escape Slide must be detached from the aircraft before ordering the evacuation of passengers
- Passengers will enter the water with life jackets and gather around the slides as the means of support and keeping survivors together until rescue
- You may place small children and injured passengers in the centre of the slide
How to detach a Slide Raft and Escape Slide?
- Detach by lifting the Velcro Strap and pulling the White Separation Handle
How to disconnect slide raft and escape slide?
Disconnect by using knife to cut mooring line
how much does the portable life raft weigh?
they weigh approximately 35 kilograms
Capacity of life rafts?
capacity - 25 with an overload of 38
2 ABPs would need to be instructed to bring the portable life raft when:
asked by a crew member meaning slide raft failure or
once a slide raft is full and disconnected
How to attach the life raft?
Remove the mooring line behind the red pouch
Attach life raft to aircraft by passing the mooring line through: Evacuation handle - Seat Frame - Fasten Seatbelt & Clip the mooring line back onto itself
how do we launch and inflate the life raft?
throw the portable life raft into the water
pull the mooring line taut if it does not automatically inflate
locate the D ring then with one firm pull to inflate the life raft (additional pulls may be required if proper inflation falls)
use the mooring line to hold the life raft to the aircraft - external conditions permitting
Who initiates a ditching?
PIC will initiate a ditching
In what case can cabin crew initiate a ditching & what would they say?
If they are confident that the aircraft has come to a complete stop on water. They can initiate a ditching on water by stating: “Attention! this is a ditching follow your crew members instructions”
