Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cells Flashcards
What is an eukaryotic cell?
A type of cell which holds all of its genetic information (DNA) inside of a membrane-bound nucleus.
What is a prokaryotic cell?
A type of cell which does not contain a nucleus.
Are our body cells considered eukaryotic?
Yes. All of our body cells are considered eukaryotic because they all contain a nucleus.
Which is more complex, eukaryotic cells or prokaryotic cells?
Eukaryotic cells are generally more complex than prokaryotic cells and contain many more organelles. Prokaryotic cells also tend to be smaller than eukaryotic cells.
Do prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells both contain ribosomes? Or does only one of them contain it?
Both eukaryotic cells and prokaryotic cells contain ribosomes.
Between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells, who has the flagella?
Prokaryotic cells have a flagella.
What is a flagella?
A means of movement for the prokaryotic cell, and is something eukaryotic cells don’t have.
What is an organelle?
A small organized structure within a cell. A ribosome is an organelle in both eukaryotic cells and prokaryotic cells. A nucleus is an organelle found within eukaryotic cells, but not prokaryotic cells.
