the council
A
28 ministers, one from each member state, Centre of power, decides which
proposals should be made into law.

commission
A
28 commissioners, represent interests of EU NOT individual states. Each commissioner has area of responsibility e.g. transport, Initiates laws, and guard's treaties (i.e. makes sure EU laws are enforced in member states)

parliament
A
MEPs elected every 5 years in their
member states and are allocated
seats in proportion to the population in their country, Gradually been allowed more involvement in the law-making process. Was just consulted, now can co-decide.

EU court of justice (ECJ)
A
Situated in Luxembourg. The 28 judges hold high judicial positions in their home countries and are appointed for 6 years. Judicial role - to decide on cases Supervisory role - to decide cases referred to it by other member states
