Number of intermarriages increased – leads to culture clashes (disagreement between two people of different cultural practices or beliefs )
However they tend to assimilate and become closer to culture they live in - suggests ethnicity is less influential
Due to ethnocentric school curriculum that focus on British values

Butler : third generation muslims – adopt western ideas about education etc but still retain respect for traditional values and ideas
Reflect their identity by wearing traditional Asian dresses
Family and ethnicity
Ghuman : Asian families - brought up to be obedient and loyal , value arranged marriages and respect religion

Studies of Indian and Chinese families indicate importance of educational sucesss to family and indentity
Ethnocentric school curriculum focusing on British values ; contribution of black/Asian cultures to history or English is invisible

Role of black music reinforces black identity , communication of racism
