what is the 1940/50 Assimilation Policy ?
immigrant children attending British schools were expected to quickly assimilate. had to attempt to fit into British education system with little support. eg cultural practices(holidays) and language barriers
how did the government respond to criticisms of racism ?
introduce multiculturalism with is learning and celebrating a diversity of cultures in the UK
what are criticisms of multiculturalism ?
- learning about differences rather than brining those together in cultures
- seeing it as usual
what is the alternative approach to multiculturalism ?
anti-racism:
encourages diversity to be integrated into curriculum eg black authors into integrated rather than seen as something different
