Essential Pharma Flashcards
Name the 4 different cell surface receptors
Channel/ iononotrophic
G protein coupled, metabotrophic
Receptor enzymes
Integrine enzymes
Describe the pathway when adenyl cyclase (metabotrophic receptor) is activated
ATP activates cAMP, Which activates protein kinase A which phosphorylates protein
Describe the pathway when PLC (metabotrophic enzyme) is activated
Plc when activated, activates IP3 and DAG.
IP3 then causes calcium to be release =cell response
DAG then activates protein kinase A, phosphorylation of proteins = cell response
How might calcium release be stimulated from SR
1) IP3
2) trickles of Ca let in by DLP calcium channels in transverse tables in muscle
Define efficacy and affinity
Affinity is how likely a drug will bind to a target
Efficacy is how good the drug is at activating the receptor
What is the EC50 of a drug and how does this relate to affinity
Conc of drug which is required to get the max response. High EC50 will mean high affinity
Vmax will increase if efficacy is high, true or false
True,
What does it mean if an agonist or antagonist is selective
Means it only works for specific receptors
