Q

Principle of estimate of ESR

A

-anticoagulated venous bloody in vertical tube undisturbed
-erythrocyte falls towards the bottom
-2 layers, upper plasma(in multi meter for 1 hr)and lower red cell layer
-process erythrocyte sedimentation
-rate ESR

Q

Requirements for westegrins method

A

-Pipettes
Both side open
30 cm in length
Bore size-2.5 mm
Caliberated in mm for 0 to 200
Capacity-1ml

-westegrins stand
-anticoagulant
3.8%na citrate soln
2ml of whole blood in o.5ml of 3.8%na citrate of blood to anticoagulant ratio 4:1

Q

Modified westegrins, method

A

Blood anticoagulated with EDTA,not with citrate/ oxalates
Advantage
Blood collected from same tube from which coagulation studies are performed

Q

Disposable method

A

More convenient
Eliminate risky method of filing blood through pipette
ESR only fills blood upto 0 mark which sucks!

Q

Winetrobes method

A

Wintrobes tube filled upto 0 mark(C- EDA/double oxalate anticoagulated blood)
-blood tube filled in vertical position
-after 1hr ,read upper plasma in mm/hr

Q

Advantage of wintrobe method

A

Small amount of blood and simple
Some tube may used for ESR &PCV
Buffy coat smear useful in leukopemia, subleukemic leukemia &LE cell test

Q

VES MATIC

A

To measure 20 blood sample
Result-comparable to westegrin method
Available in approx 22 min

Principle
-blood in special cuvette
-sample mixed by instruments ,allowed to stand at 18o stand from vertical
-opto electrical sensor measure ESR
-data ,elaborated &printed

Q

ESR STAT PLUS

A

Centrifugation based
Result in 5 min

17
Q

SEDIMAT

A

-In sedimat automated ESR reader, filled sediplast westegrins pipet is placed
Accelerate sedimentation under controlled conditions
-after 15 min on LCD display, reader displays the result
-result stored in memory and can be printed

18
Q

Zeta sedimentation ratio

A

-In small bore capillary tube filled with blood
-rotate for 3 to 4 min in Zetafuge (special centrifuge)
-centrifuge alternatively and disperse RBC under standardized centrifuged force
-tube read in zetacrit(special reader)to obtain value

19
Q

Advan of ZSR

A

Rapid
Corrects for anemia
Require small blood sample
Desirable for pediatric patients
