How Blood is collected
Sterile disposable needles and lancet by wearing sterile disposable gloves
Capillary blood is useful in babies.why?from where it is taken?
Only small quantity is obtained
From skin puncture of fingertip in adult and heel pad in children (rarely earlobes)
Advantage and disadvantages of taking capillary blood
Less traumatic,no syringe and needle is necessary
Many times it gets mixed with tissue fluid, so exult may less accurate
Vein used in venous blood.reason?
Medical cubital Vein.it is large and does not slip
For venous blood ,blood is collected from
Dorsum of the hand and saphenous Vein
For newborn,umbilical Vein and scalp Vein
In children,femoral vein
Arterial blood collected from
Radial and femoral arteries
How to do blood gas analysis
Take blood in 2ml heparinized syringe
Cover needle tip with rubber cap after removing the bubbles present in the syringe
Rotate to mix blood and anticoagulant
