What are some indications for performing a barium swallow for an esophagography?
Suspended rupture, stricture, regurgitation, foreign body, mass, megaesophagus, trachea-esophageal fistula, esophageal dysfunction
What contrast agents are used for Esophagography?
Barium sulfate paste and liquid 60% and Barium sulfate mixed with canned food
What change in procedure may be done if a rupture is suspected?
use water-soluble iodine rather than barium
What supplies are needed for an Esophagography?
syringes for barium, canned food, contrast agent, kidney pan for contrast agent, bucket of soapy water, rags, mouth gag or speculum
What 2 views are taken for prelims for an Esophagography?
Lateral and VD
What items are evaluated with the survey radiographs for Esophagography?
Thoracic and cervical areas
What is the fasting process for an Esophagography?
fast for 12 hours and repeat survey radiographs or fast for 12 hours before performing study
How is barium administered?
via buccal pouch with a 10-20ml syringe or tube
How much barium is administered?
1-5ml
What are the minimum amount of views taken for an Esophagography?
2
A complete Esophagography study may include what views?
Right and left lateral, VD, Right and Left VD oblique
What is the dosage for Acepromazine?
0.02mg/lb
A Gastrography is helpful in determining what?
Position, size, shape, morphology of the stomach
What are some indications for performing a gastrogram?
Gastric masses, ulcerations, radiolucent foreign bodies, outflow obstruction
What are some signs the may lead a veterinarian to request a Gastrography?
acute or chronic vomiting, blood in the vomit, cranial abdomen pain, not eating, not acting well
