Erosional landforms Flashcards
1
Q
What are headlands? (Erosion coasts)
A
Sections of the coast that protrude out into the sea
2
Q
What are bays? (Erosion coasts)
A
A body of water surrounded by land on three sides
3
Q
What are the sequence of formations of erosion at a cliff? (Erosion coasts)
A
- Notch into a cave
- Hydraulic action erodes crack into a blow hole
- Erosion of a sea cave results in sea arch
- Wave cut platform is the base of the original headland
- Roof of arch collapses leaving a sea stack
- Sea stack erodes to form a stump
4
Q
How is a wave-cut notch and platform created? (Erosion coasts)
A
- The sea attacks the base of the cliff forming a wave-cut notch
- The notch increases in size causing the cliff to collapse
- The backwash carries the rubble towards the sea forming a wave-cut platform
- The process repeats and the cliff continues to retreat
