A
  1. 2 people and 2 slide sheets are usually required to use a slide sheet to move a Client up/down bed or across the bed;
  2. there are some occasions when it is safe for 1 person to use a slide sheet alone
  3. for temporary use only, they are not to be left under the patient due to interference with pressure relief and hygiene

A
  1. When Client unable to transfer safely or weight bear
  2. If Client not reliable when weight bearing during transfers
  3. Vertical transfers from floor for Client unable to assist
  4. Heavy Clients
  5. Always minimum x2 person assist
  6. Base of sling near coccyx area to enable toilet use
  7. Leg extensions may be crossed or not but preferable to have them crossed for modesty
  8. if quads < Grade 3
  9. Brakes: ON to apply sling and raising; OFF when lowering hoist as it needs to find its own centre of gravity, otherwise it may tip over.

  1. Use correct sling size to avoid Client slipping out
  2. Ensure sling in good state
  3. Unstable fractured shaft of femur; Spinal fractures
  4. Hip replacements
  5. Recent hip surgery
  6. Unstable dislocated hips
  7. Extremely fragile skin
  8. Precautions: fractured ribs, open wounds or burns; drains and attachments; post-thoracic or spinal surgery; aggressive Clients
  9. Brakes usually off when lowering Client in hoist
  10. Do not travel >2m with Client in hoist

  3. Client must be able to weight bear through at least one leg and grasp with at least one hand;
  4. not able to push or pull to stand safely
  5. If the Client has weak quads muscles but can SLR at least 1 leg;
  6. Cooperates and understands instructions
  7. Client can bridge and grip;
  8. When a Client can pivot but not stand;
  9. If the Client is unreliable in standing and step transfers
