Darcy’s Law

Mean arterial pressure

Pulse pressure

CO

SV

A

– F = P/R (Flow, Pressure diff., vascular resistance)

= diastolic pressure + 1/3 pulse pressure

= systolic pressure – diastolic pressure

= HR x SV

= EDV – ESV

Systemic BP

Starlings law

Net filtration pressure

Boyle’s law

A

= CO x TPR (total peripheral resistance)

energy of contraction is proportional to the initial length of the cardiac muscle fibre. (higher EDV = longer length of muscle fibres.)

= Net hydrostatic pressure (18-35mmHg) – Net osmotic pressure (25mmHg)

the pressure of a given quantity of gas is inversely proportional to it’s volume.
(increase volume, decreased pressure etc.)

A

= TV + IRV + ERV

= TV + IRV

Laplace’s Law

A

= TV x breathing frequency

= TV x respiratory rate

= change in volume/change in pressure (litres/cmH20)

describes the relationship between Pressure (P), surface tension (T) and the radius of an alveolus. P = 2T/r
