What is management?
Involves planning and implementing a set of actions that facilitate the transition from one situation to another that is hoped for . It requires setting out and following a series of steps or actions that lead eventually to evolve or solving the original problem
What is an issue?
An important topic or problem for debate or discussion e.g racism
What are demographic changes?
-Total population
-Rate of population change
-Migration balance
-Age structure
-Ethnic mix
-Family size
-Life expectancy
What are economic changes?
-Type of employment
-Unemployment rate
-Household income
-% on minimum income
What factors contribute to the IMD of an area?
-Health and disability
-Education, skills and training
-Crime

-Income
-Living environment
-Barriers to housing and services
What are the cultural and demographic changes which require management in diverse places?
-Ethnicity = respecting immigrant communities and outlawing discrimination
-Migration = reducing tension between migrants and residents and controlling immigration
-Population structure = coping with an ageing population and anticipating future change
-Quality of life = improving access to housing and providing enough healthcare and education
Regeneration in the London boroughs:
-Barking and Dagenham = aiming to deliver housing and industrial brownfield sites
-Tower Hamlets = generated a few local jobs and regenerated the canary wharf
-Newham = hosted the 2012 olympics, comtains the Queen Elizabeth olympic park, 10,000 jobsmade
What is assimilation?
The process by which people of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds come to interact and intermix free of constraints in the life of the larger community or nation
What is a stakeholder?
Someone with an interest or concern in an issue to be managed
What ways can we judge the success of regeneration strategies?
-Average wages
-People in education
-Crime rate
-Number of affordable homes
-Number of people per household
-Access to services
What is the Aik Saath?
An organisation aiming to tackle tensions between many ethnic groups which aims to bring people together by mainly working in schools and places of worship

-Responsible for anti terrorism and extremism policies

What are the problems of Oxford?
-House prices are 11x the average wage
-Most expensive city in the UK
-Most people commute from Oxford to London
-Not enough housing makes recruitment difficult and local businesses struggle
-By 2031 24,000-32,000 new homes are needed but there is not enough land to build them
What is the Eden project?
-Transformed in 1999 from an unused clay pit
-Opened on march 1st 2001
-Over 13 million visitors
