Epigentics Flashcards
What does epigenetic concern
How inherited traits would not only come from the nucleotide sequences but from other factors
For example environmental (obesity)
What does the HDAC medicine do
Histone deacetylation complex
Deacetylate and would close the structure
Would not allow the transcription of the viral or cancer proteins
What does methylation of k27 do
Gene silencing
What does methylation of k4 and acetylation of k9 do
Gene expression
What does methylation of k9 do
Formation of heterochromatin and gene silencing
What is the difference between heterochromatin and euchromatin
Heterochromatin is condense
Euchromatin more loosely packed
What is the issue with heterochromatin
Since tightly packed would not allow some of the genes to be expressed
What is histone removal and exchange and would would be needed for the mechanism
When a histones would be removed and replaces with another one
This would need ATP energy (allowing the histone to be broke up)
The remodelling complex
Histone chaperones
How many coils of dna are around a nucleosome
2
What is nucleosome sliding
When the histone protein of the nucleosome would be slid further down the dna strand
This would allow some dna to be exposed
Transcription of this area of dna can occur
What is genomic imprinting
When some genes would be expressed depending on where they were inherited from
For example some genes would be expressed as they have been inherited from the father
What is X-chromosome inactivation
Females would have one of the 2 X-chromosomes silenced
If they are heterozygous in some of the cells this would lead to mosaism
