What is a citizen?
A citizen is a legally recognized member of a community,
What does being a U.S. citizen consist of?
Being a U.S. citizen consists of being at least 18 years old, be a lawful permanent resident, has lived in the United States for 5 years, be of good character, have a working knowledge of english, pass a brief test on American history and government, and must swear loyalty to the United States through an oath.
What is it called when somebody is automatically a U.S. citizen for being born in America?
Being a U.S. citizen for birth in America is called birthright citizenship.
What are the two different ways someone can be a birthright citizen?
You can be born on American Soil or you can be related to parents who have lived on American Soil for at least 1 year continuously.
Do you need to be a U.S. citizen to vote in the U.S?
Yes, you do need to be a citizen to vote in the U.S.
Do you need to pay tax if you are legally allowed into the country, but are not a citizen?
Yes, but only if you buy things or make an income.
What is civic participation?
Civic Participation is participating in the government.
What does the sixth amendment guarantee us?
The sixth amendment guarantees us the benefit of a trial by jury.
What is an absentee ballot?
An absentee ballot is a ballot that the voter sends when they are not able to vote in person.
What is an ex post facto law?
An ex post facto law is a law condemning an action that is passed after the action was taken.
What is a writ of habeas corpus?
A “writ of habeas corpus” is a type of court order.
What is Article I Section 9?
Article I Section 9 is a law that prevents congress from taking certain actions against citizens.
What was James Madison’s view on electing a president?
James Madison’s view on electing a president was letting congress elect the president.
What group of people were used to elect a president?
A group of people named the electoral college were used to elect a president. (on the rare occasion that they both tied the president would be chosen by the House or Representatives.
How old do you have to be to run for president?
You have to be at least 35 years old to run for president.
What is a political party?
A political party is an organization of citizens who share similar views and who work together to get some of their members elected to public office.
What is an electoral recount?
An electoral recount is a recount of the votes in the states.
What is a social contract with a government?
A social contract is a group of people who make an agreement to make a community.
What is the movement called of people who brought light and reason to everything they study?
This movement was called the enlightenment.
What are the five main point that the Declaration of Independence accomplished?
The first was American Independence, the second was that it start a theory of government based on natural law and protection of individual rights, the third was listed the complaints of King George III and the British Government, it justified the conduct of the citizens and it announced the United States as being a new nation in the international community.
What are the unalienable rights?
The unalienable rights are the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
What does the theory of human beings, being independent in the beginning consist of?
This theory consists of people who used to live independently until it was realized that they needed to be able to do things they could not do on their own, such as get protection.
