Enzyme Extended Study Flashcards
What is the active site?
Part of the enzyme that combines with the substrate
What is the induced fit model?
Forces the active site to change for the enzyme
Steps of enzyme action
- Substrate enters the active site of enzyme
- Enzyme changes shape slightly as substrate binds
- Enzyme/Products complex. Substrate splits
- Products (split substrate) leave the active site
Enzyme specificity theory?
Most enzymes are specific to one substrate. This means that itโll only react to one particular substrate.
E.g amylase only acts on starch
ATP Becoming ADP
ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) Has three phosphates
ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate) Loses a phosphate and energy is released
What does NADP+ stand for
Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate
Energy carrier table
Process: (Photosynthesis)(Respiration)
โ โ
Low energy: (ADP,NADP+)(ATP,NADPH)
โ โ
High energy: (ADP,NAD+)(ATP, NADH)
