relationship between sentences that forms the basis for inferences :
an entailment is the relationship between sentences whereby one sentence will be true if all the others are also true.

purely semantic
all sentences have entailments where one sentence is true if original sentence is true
drawn from declarative sentences; for deduction/induction
allows for communication PAST utterances
