What are the upper and lower limits of RVSM?
FL290, FL410
What equipment is required for RVSM?
2x primary altimetry systems
1x automatic altitude-keeping device
1x altitude alerting device
What does RVSM stand for and what does it allow?
Reduced vertical separation minimum
Allows separation between aircraft to be 1000ft, non RVSM aircraft (or non RVSM to RVSM) are vertically separated by 2000ft
When must you notify ATC if you are unable to comply with RVSM criteria?
30 minutes prior to entry to RVSM airspace
Immediately when within 30 minutes of, or within RVSM airspace
Altimeter setting procedures
At or above FL150, 1013.2
At or below 13,000ft, QNH
In transition, as advised by ATC (ATS approval only)
On climb above 13,000ft, 1013.2
On descent through FL150, appropriate zone area or aerodrome QNH
When is FL150 unable to be used?
When zone area QNH is 980hPa or less, the minimum usable flight level increases to FL160
