What is direct address
writers use direct address during a sentence to talk directly to the readers and engage with them.
What is a visual hook
when a writer uses a power visual description to engage the reader at the beginning of the novel
What is an amusing hook
when the writer uses a joke to establish a comedic sense at the beginning an extract
What is dialogue
having your characters talking to each other to establish a relationship and bond
What is a suttle hook
when the writer starts the passage by hinting what is going to happen during the text, this can also be called foreshadowing
What is an atmospheric hook
when you use a descriptive tone or language to build up a theme of what the atmosphere is like, it is good to talk about the tone it creates and what effects it has on a reader
What is a cyclical ending
where the ending turns back to the beginning of a narrative
What is a plot twist
a complete change in direction from where the reader would have believed the story was going
What is a converging storyline
when two or more storylines come together at the end of a story
What is a cliff hanger
when the reader is uncertain about what is going to happen
What is an Epiphany
a sudden moment of realisation or emotional change
What is zooming
when the writer focuses on something that in effect does not have an effect on the grand scheme of things. It is effective because it focuses the reader

repeating a point of view multiple times and adding to it each time, this is a structural feature
