structure of a magazine article
opening- start with a rhetorical question, a summary of the main theme of the article, essential facts, how are you connected to the issue/why do you care, your experience
the rest- facts and ideas
quotations- make up some quotations from people, stats, facts
the end- what are your hopes for the future? how can the reader help? end on a bang which readers will remember etc ‘5 minutes of your time could change the world.’
for each paragraph have a sub heading which summarise the points of the paragraph
things to include in magazine article
direct adress to the reader, alliteration, fact, opinion, rhetorical question, emotive language, sob story, stats, rule of three, short powerful sentences,
-note these down at beginning of exam DAFOREST
how to write a formal letter
- your address on the right and the person your writing too on the left
- the date under your address (on the right)
- adress the reader; Dear sir/madam
- begin your next line where the dear sir/madam ends
- final paragraph refer to all your points as a conclusion
- last line say ‘thank you for taking the time to read my letter; I look forward to hearing from you.’
- if you don’t know the name of the person your writing too the sign off ‘yours faithfully’ if you do then ‘yours sincerely’
