A
- Limit to what they would allow the King to do.
- Most were Anglican, concerned about the spread of Catholic/dissenting ideas.
- Dec 1662, Charles makes Declaration Of Indulgence, allowing peaceful religious practice.
- Feb 1663, Parliament delayed a vote and forced him to abandon it.

A
- Feb 1664, Charles proposes changed Triennial Act (only has to call parliament every 3 years, but cannot force him to).
- Parliament agree in March 1664.
- Nov 1664, Oct 1665, Parliament grants 2.5m to fight the Dutch, in exchange, Charles passes the Five Mile act.

- Charles was pressured by parliament, needed to blame someone for the war.
- Dismissed Clarendon from his post as Chief Minister.
- Parliament discuss his impeachment, but he flees to France.

A
- After Clarendon, the king was advised by a group of ministers known as the Cabal.
- Passed the 1668 Conventicles Act, fining those in non-Anglican meetings.
- Charles forced to withdraw Declaration of Indulgence and pass Test Act in 1973.

- After the fall of the Cabal, Charles appointed Danby as the Chief Minister.
- Some anti-Catholic/French feelings.
- Amid the panic of the popish plot, leaked documents proved Danby had been secretly negotiating with France, and he was forced to resign.

- Four House of Commons bills passed to exclude James.
- Parliament meet for a final time in Oxford, 1681. King offered to limit future catholic Kings powers. Whigs refused.
- King dissolved parliament for the final time.

A
- Charles tightened his hold on power.
- Replaced town charters, purged Whigs from the judiciary and local government and replaced them with loyal Tories.
- Reduced those who could vote, to prevent a future Whig parliament.
