Engineering Flashcards
What are the components of the the Feed phase?
DFT - de-aerating feed tank
De-aerates, stores, preheats water
Booster pump - passes water and maintains pressure from dft to main feed pump
Main feed pump - discharge water to boiler at high pressure
What pressure does the boiler use?
600psi
What does the boiler do?
Generates steam
What is the force draft blower?
Provides air for Combustion
What is the electric force draft blower?
Provides air for light off of boiler
What are the EVAPS used for?
Potable water - laundry, galley, cleaning, personal use
Feed water - boiler
What types of bearings do we have?
Main thrust
Line shaft
Strut
What do main thrust bearings support?
Absorbs vibration and provides axial thrust to ship’s hull
What do line shaft bearing support?
The weight of the shaft inside the ship
What do strut bearings support?
The weight of the shaft outside the ship
When do we use the Main Circ Pump?
Below 8 knots or going in reverse
What type of boiler do we have?
Type D modified, left handed Foster wheeler, 3-burner front
Name all lube oil service pumps
ALOP - attach lube oil pump
ELOP - emergency lube oil pump
ESLOP - electric standby lube oil pump
What are the types of fuel onboard?

JP-5
What is DFM used for?
Boilers and EDG
What is JP-5 used for?
Boilers, P-100s, small boats, helos
What types of distilling plants are onboard?
5-stage, flash type, low pressure
How many gallons can one distilling plant produce in one day?
50,000 gallons
What is the standard for water consumption per person/per day?
25 gallons
What is the maximum capacity for potable water?
123,152 gallons
What is the range of psi for the HPAC?
1,000 to 3,000psi
What is the range of psi for the LPAC?
0-125psi
What is the primary purpose of the HPAC and LPAC?
Electronic cooling
