Q

Use of 1 3/4 INAPPROPRIATE , use 2 1/2” during these circumstances?

A
  • DEFENSIVE POSITION
  • ADVANCED fire on Arrival
  • LARGE VOLUME of water for superheated fire area
  • LARGE body of fire in LARGE uncompartmented area
  • AREA OF FIRE-SIZE AND cannot DETERMINED

Q

Direction of MALE THREADS, NORMALLY point in?

A

Direction of WATER FLOW

  • Couplings are made HAND TIGHT, use a SPANNER if couplings leak

Q

Transport Frozen HOSE to quarters:

A
  • Frozen hose transported pumper, provided LONG ROUND TURNS are made when placing it on apparatus
  • handled/bent AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE
  • IF SOLID, consideration given to transport via AERIAL LADDER …laid out straight
  • upon return to quarters lay out hose and allow to dry NATURALLY

Free Frozen couplings:

  • thawing apparatus
  • exhaust of apparatus

Free frozen hose:

  • chop away ice
  • thawing apparatus

Q

HOSE shall be removed and CLEANED WHEN?

A

SPRING /FALL

ANY hose reaching 10 years is to be taken OOS–NOTIFY FIRE TOOLS/EQUIPMENT UNIT VIA FAX

stamped coupling - 970023–“97” is year (this must be replaced in 2007–10 years )

17
Q

Hose used to carry salt water should be ?

A

FLUSHED throughly with fresh water

18
Q

If serviceability of hose is in doubt, test it to?

A

250 PSI

19
Q

Before connecting hose, check for cracks, out of round, burred threads, and presence of ?

A

WASHER(female coupling)

-to check washer remove it and fold it between your thumb and forefinger

spare washers- tech services

20
Q

No MORE than ____lengths of 1 3/4” hose shall be used as lead?

A

6 lengths

typical hose load:(can vary depending on response area)
one bed of 2 1/2”
one bed 3 1/2”
two of 1 3/4” –coupled to 2 1/2” hose

21
Q

DO NOT permit hose to LIE OVER ITS EDGE…

A

load hose from LEFT To right

-when reloading hose should be reconnected JUST PRIOR to reaching the bed, ensures PROPER DRAINAGE

22
Q

ROLLED lengths

A

ROLL so MALE end is inside
place male end 3 feet from female coupling

HOSE SENT TO DIVISION OF TECH SERVICES (not fire tools /equipment) with MALE BUTT INSIDE

23
Q

Folded LENGTHS :

A

2 butts side by side…FACING BUTT, MALE on your left

for LEAD LENGHT with NOZZLE…NOZZLE TIP EVEN with female butt

STRAP tight enough so butts will not flap around

24
Q

HOSE TEST:

A

-hose butts free of dirt/debris
-visual inspection while preparing it for test/prior to charging lines
-connect pumper to hydrant on inlet OPPOSITE CONTROL PANEL
-ALL connections SPANNER TIGHT
-attach one way gate to pumper outlet
-attach 4 1/2” to 2 1/2 “ reducer to 6 WAY MANIFOLD
-ATTACH IN LINE HOSE TEST GAUGE
(before starting, check tightness of INLINE GAUGE set screw)
-MAX 2 LENGTHS of hose from one way gate to hose test gauge (hose must be stretched from outlet OPPOSITE CONTROL PANEL(just like hydrant hook up)
NOTE: ONLY SUPPLY WITH 2 1/2” HOSE
-RELIEF VALVE should be CAPPED and FULLY CLOSED during test
-MAX 6 LENGTHS stretched from each 2 1/2” GATED OUTLET on manifold
-attach DRAIN VALVE CAP to MALE COUPLING to last length
-DRAW line as close to possible to MALE BUTT (water soluble marker)..movement of 1/8 INCH or more indicate male butt and hose are SEPARATING …OOS

CHARGE MANIFOLD with HYDRANT PRESSURE

  • BLEED AIR by opening SPIGOT on cap…when water is flowing freely …then close spigot
  • FF to left 15 feet from left side of manifold, facing hose…all other members safe distance, securing area
  • ECC will gradually increase pressure to 250 PSI on hose test gauge

OFFICERS MAKE FINAL INSPECTION OF ENTIRE HOSE TEST SYSTEM …MOVES TO SAFE POSITION AND INSURES SAFETY OF MEMBERS

250 PSI for 5 MINUTES and then gradually reduce pressure

defective hose MANUAL OF REQUISITIONS AND PAYROLL

25
Q

Company Commanders establish method whereby …

A

a length of 3 1/2” hose can be stretched form EITHER SIDE of the apparatus in the even a hydrant hookup with a standard hydrant connection is not feasible

26
Q

Engine companies carry:

A

at least 3 lengths of 2 1/2” inch hose (rolled /folded)
at least 3 lengths of 1 3/4” inch hose (rolled /folded) additionally extra length of 1 3/4” with nozzle attached (burst length /short stretch)
