Engine 4 - Fire Scene Operations Flashcards
Objective of Firefighting?
protect LIFE and PROPERTY, by performing rescues, and locating, confining , extinguishing fires
Protection of LIFE is primary consideration at any fireground operation .
LIFE SAVING OPERATIONS are placed AHEAD of firefighting, when sufficient FF’s are not available to do both, as is the case with NO LADDER on the scene, the best life saving measure, may be a prompt attack on fire
HOWEVER
VISIBLE LIFE HAZARD MUST BE ADDRESSED
IMMEDIATE RESCUE ATTEMPTS by the FIRST ARRIVING ENGINE COMPANY without simultaneously stretching and positioning a hoselien should be attempted only in EXTREME SITUATIONS
When an EXACT location of fire has been determined, it must be conveyed to other units operating on the scene…..
the MOST DIRECT ROUTE TO THE FIRE AREA MUST BE RELAYED TO MEMBERS STRETCHING INITIAL HOSELINE
- LOCATE
- CONFINE/CONTROL
- EXTINGUISH (3rd stage)
Locate: printout, survey building, solicit info from occupants, HT, ODORS
Confine:second stage, prevent extending beyond area involved /placing hoseline in between fire and occupants /closing door/window
Extinguish:” knock down” of VISIBLE FLAMES and apparent burning and smoldering debris…final extinguishment-opening up/overhaul
