Engine Flashcards
Normal Engine Thrust Control
A FADEC is dedicated to each engine (each with 2 channels). Pilot sets thrust in manual mode, FMGS sets thrust in automatic mode, FADEC prevents thrust from exceeding limits in both modes. Thrust setting made through control of EPR (engine pressure ratio = LP turbine exhaust/ engine air inlet pressure)
N1 Mode
EPR Mode (normal thrust control) is NOT available and FADEC reverts to thrust control using N1; N1 Rated or N1 Degraded modes, depending on FADEC inputs have failed.
notes: A/THR is lost but can be regained if only one engine is degraded, in this case Alpha floor remains available. Flex T/O prohibited.
N1 Rated Mode
FADEC controls engine N1 as a function of thrust lever position, temperature, and altitude while preventing the engine from exceeding operating limits. Thrust is controlled in the same manner as in the normal mode (ie, MCT = MCT, TOGA position = TOGA thrust…)
N1 Degraded Mode
FADEC controls engine N1 as a function of thrust lever position only. The thrust lever detents do not provide limit protections (FADEC computes a red line beyond actual N1 limit so EGT may be exceeded). ECAM annunciation on E/WD.
ENG MAN START pbs
ON: Initiates manual start sequence of the associated engine (engine start selector set to IGN/START) or initiates crank sequence when engine start selector set to CRANK (engine master set to OFF = dry crank, ON = wet crank)
Follow supplementary procedures for Manual Start, no start fault protections so must manually abort for issues.
Selecting the ENG START selector to IGN/START does what?
- FADECs are energized
- Pack Valves close
- ENG SD page appears on SD
