Energy From Water Flashcards
1
Q
How can electricity be generated from tides?
A
When the tide is high the water can be held back by barrages across a river estuary. After a few hours the sea level on the other side of the barrage has fallen. Water is then allowed to flow through turbines in the barrage. To generate electricity.

Q
What is hydroelectric power?
A
A hydroelectric power station also transforms the kinetic energy in moving water into electrical energy. A dam is built in a hilly area to store water in a reservoir. Water then flows downhill in pipes to the power station. The flowing water drives turbines to generate electricity. Hydroelectric power stations are a renewable energy resource.
