Energy Changes RQP- variables that affect temperature changes in reacting solutions Flashcards
1
Q
what does this practical test specifically?
A
the effect of acid concentration on the energy released in a neutralisation reaction between hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH)
2
Q
step 1
A
- put 25cm3 of 0.25mol/ dm3 of hydrochloric acid and sodium
3
Q
step 2
A
place the beakers in a water bath set to 25degrees until they are both at the same temperature (25degrees)
4
Q
step 3
A
add the HCl followed by the NaOH to a polystyrene cup with a lid
5
Q
step 4
A
- take the temperature of the mixture ever 30sec and record the hgihest temperature
6
Q
step 5
A
repeat using 0.5mol/ dm3 and then 1mol/ dm3 of hydrochloric acid
7
Q
what is the equipment set up for this practical?
A
- polystyrene cup with a lid containing the reaction mixture and a hole through the lid
- this cup is surrounded by cotton wool in a large beaker
