Chemical Changes RQP- obtaining a pure, dry sample of soluble salt from an insoluble oxide or carbonate Flashcards
what do you need to do in a question before you start the method?
identify the acid and the base- you can then write it into the method in the appropriate places
step 1
add 25cm3 of the acid into a beaker and warm to 60 degrees
step 2
then add 1 spatula of the base at a time, stirring in between until it is in excess (some uinreacted powder is left at the bottom)
step 3
filter the mixture to remove the excess powder and collect the filtrate
step 4
pour the filtrate into an evaporating basin and then evaporate it over a water bath until about 1/2 half of the solution has evaporated
step 5
leave in a warm, dry place for the rest to evaporate naturally and for crystallisation to occur
step 6
pat dry with filter paper
