what does the endocrine system work alongside?
it takes instructions from the nervous system
what is the difference between the endocrine and nervous system?
the nervous system uses electronic signals to send messages, the endocrine system uses hormones as chemical messengers.
what is the chemical messenger in the endocrine system?
a hormone, usually a protein that causes an action in an target organ or target tissues
what is the role of the endocrine glands?
to secrete their hormone directly into the blood as it passes through the gland.
they are ductless glands
what are the functions of the pancreas?
an exocrine function that helps in digestion and an endocrine function that regulates blood sugar
what is the role of The islets of Langerhans in the pancreas?
they have alpha and beta cells that produce different hormones:
Alpha cells make glucagon
Beta cells make insulin
