Endocrine Control Review Flashcards
What do tropic hormones do?
Control the secretion of other hormones
How are amines removed from circulation?
Specific circulating enzymes
Why do thyroid hormones behavour more like steroid hormones than catecholamines, despite them both being amines
Because they’re both lipophilic
How do primary and secondary endocrine disorder differ?
Primary are due the gland being abnormal whereas secondary is due to a gland’s production being abnormal
What is the path of neurohormones?
They’re released by neurones into the blood then travel to their target from there
Paracrine signalling is for what?
Response propagation
Where are the receptors for lipophilic hormones located?
Intracellularly
Are catecholamines lipophilic or lipophobic?
Lipophobic
What does the pineal gland produce?
Melatonin
T/F Hormones bound to protein carriers are inactive
True
What is the precursor for most steroid hormones?
Cholesterol
How are large peptide hormones removed from the circulation?
Receptor mediated endocytosis
