Endochondral Ossification Flashcards
What type of tissue does endochondral ossification originate from?
fetal skeleton made out of hyaline cartilage that end up forming chondroblasts
- surrounded by the perichondrium
what do chondroblast make?
ground substance
chondroblast entrapped in lacunae become…
chondrocytes
the process of chondrocytes growing in size is called
hypertrophy
- due to the chondrocytes being entrapped in the lacunae they begin to grow in size
what cause chondrocytes to die?
after chondrocytes hypertrophy; causing the lacunae to grow bigger and bigger to which then the ground substance begins to calcify; w/ no nutrients passing through they die.
What does the remaining hyaline cartilage become?
where are they found?
nothing but bone
the remaining hyaline cartilage remains at the epiphyseal plates and articular plates for growth until we become adults turning the epi plates to epi lines
What do epiphyseal plates become? When does this occur?
What occurs to the cartilage and bone production as we age?
Primary ossification forms as ___________ and ____________ then go into spaces left by chondrocytes and produce _______ replacing _____________
capillaries
osteoblasts
osteoid
cartilages
Secondary ossification centers forms at the ________ similar to _____________________ center forming _______bone
epiphysis
primary ossification
spongy
