blocks the synthesis of all adrenal steroids
what is the indication for aminoglutethimide?
to temporarily decrease cortisol production
what are the side effects for aminoglutethimide?
drowsiness, nausea, anorexia, rash
what class is ketonazole?
antifungal
what does ketonazole do related to endo?
inhibits glucocorticoid synthesis
what is the indication for ketonazole?
adjunct therapy to surgery or radiation for cushing’s
what are the contraindications / nursing considerations for ketonazole?
do not take with ETOH or hepatotoxic drugs - hard on liver
do not take if existing liver problems
do not take if pregnant (can cause fetal thyroid damage)
what class is phenoxybenzamine?
alpha-blocker
what is the MOA of phenoxybenzamine?
long lasting, irreversible blockage of alpha-adrenergic receptors
what is the indication for phenoxybenzamine?
pheochromocytoma
what are the side effects of phenoxybenzamine?
orthostatic hypotension, reflex tachycardia, nasal congestion, sexual side effects in men
what class is demeclocycline ?
tetracycline
what is the MOA of demeclocycline?
interferes with renal response and makes then less sensitive to ADH
what is the indication for demeclocycline?
people with chronic SIADH
what are the side effects of demeclocycline?
photosensitivity, teeth staining, nephrotoxicity
