You have interviewed and selected a candidate for a new position in your team. The position is Traffic
Office Clerk, based in your office in Birmingham. The candidate has accepted the offer of employment
and is due to start in 2 weeks time. In the meantime you will be sending a copy of their Terms &
Conditions to them to sign and return.

b) Within what timeframe upon commencing employment must the employer provide the employee with
their Terms and Conditions of Employment?
An employee must receive their particulars of employment (T&Cs) within 2 months of commencing employment
Employers are bound by statutory periods of notice when terminating an employee’s contract of
employment, if that employee has been employed continuously for at least 1 month. Explain the
3 periods of statutory notice.
The notice required to be given by an employer to employees continuously employed for at least one month is:
– continuous employment of up to two years – not less than one week
– continuous employment of two years or more but less than 12 years – not less than one week’s notice for each year
– continuous employment of 12 years or more – not less than 12 weeks
