Q

Your company, a UK based international transport operator, has advertised for a driver to drive large
articulated vehicles on journeys in the UK and Europe. Three drivers have applied for the job and their
details are as follows:
Driver 1 – a UK based C + E licence holder with a code 102 noted on his licence
Driver 2 – a Polish national, resident in the UK, with a Polish licence showing C + E entitlement
Driver 3 – a South African national, resident in the UK, with a licence from his home country authorising
the driver to drive C+E category vehicles
Identify the driver who the company could legally employ. State the reasons why the other two drivers
could not be employed.

A

The company could legally employ Driver 2, the Polish driver, as he has the correct licence and has attained it from a
country (Poland) which is a member of the EU/EEA.
Driver 1 has his C + E licence endorsed with code 102 which means he can drive rigid and drawbar combinations but not
articulated vehicles.
Driver 3 is a foreign national from a country not in the EU/EEA and therefore must pass the relevant vocational licence
tests before he can drive large goods vehicles in the UK.
