What were the consequences of WWI on Russo polish relations?
By 1915, German advances meant that Russia was forced to give up jurisdiction over Warsaw and vilna, Poland was freed from russian rule.
What was Nicholas’ attitude to Finland?
He fully integrated it into the russian empire, their army was disbanded, russian became their official language and their state secretariat was abolished.
Why was Nicholas harsh in his measures toward Finland?
He thought Finland was a security threat, this was incorrect as after 1907, the Finnish government suppressed all separatism and expelled revolutionaries and terrorists.
What was Nicholas’ attitude to Jews?
He continued to oppress them and accused them of being revolutionaries as some Jews were associated with the SDs. That said, he did permit them to sit in the Duma.
How did Russia treat central Asian during WW1?
Attempts were made to involve them in the war, conscription was imposed during the month of Ramadan, which created much resentment from the Muslim population, leading to rebellion. They were also insulted by the fact that they were largely deemed unfit for service and given other jobs.
How did Stolypin set to increase expansion into Central Asia?
In 1910, to accommodate rising demands for land in Russia, he reinforced the steppe statute of 1891 which granted 40 acres of land to settlers.
What were the consequences of Stolypin’s actions in Asia?
The Steppe statute led to land belonging to natives being expropriated, leading to much resentment and unrest.
How did Nicholas treat Muslims?
They were initially allowed in the Duma and an All Russian Muslim League had representation in the first 2 Dumas, but after 1907, Asian Muslims were banned from the duma.
How did Russia gain a foothold in the Far East in the 1890s?
In 1894 Russia made a treaty with China, allowing the construction of the Chinese eastern railway. In 1897, Russia negotiated a deal to lease port arthur.
What was the consequence of the Chinese boxer rebellion 1899-1900 on Russia?
It gave them the chance to consolidate its presence in Manchuria, unfortunately, the japanese also wanted a foothold in the area, they asked for the ability to influence affairs in Korea, Russia refused, Japan retaliated by attacking russian ships in port arthur.
